Issues
The State of Florida is in crisis and while there are many issues that need addressing, the following is a synopsis of some issues that are near and dear to my heart.
Legislative Accomplishments
- Caylee's Law - Punishes a parent or legal guardian who obstructs a missing child investigation
- Nubia's Law - Makes substantial changes to child abuse investigative services including the Florida Abuse Hotline and child protective investigations
- The Dan Marino Foundation Vocational College - Helps fund a residential college that provides for students who have autism and other developmental disabilities
- Bay of Pigs Memorial - Sponsored a resolution to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Bay of Pigs Invasion
We must fix our economy
- As a native Floridian, I believe that state contracts should be going to companies that are owned by Floridians and that are employing Floridians.
- We have to keep jobs in our state and we must attract new, higher paying jobs in up and coming industries like healthcare, technology, the sciences and clean and renewable energy.
- We cannot continue to raise property taxes. Instead, we must fight to ensure that property taxes are going down at the same rate that our property values are depreciating.
We need to prioritize healthcare
- Every Floridian should have access to a doctor, especially if every criminal has the right to an attorney. I will fight for those that cannot fight for themselves, including our children, the disabled, and our senior citizens ensuring that they gain access to the care they need.
- We need to invest money into our State Attorney's Office and into local law enforcement in order to properly combat the fraud that is taking over our system of healthcare.
- We must encourage and foster an open dialogue between the healthcare providers and patient advocacy groups to find and eliminate inefficiencies in our healthcare system and deliver better services.
We cannot forget education
- My aunt, mother, and wife are all Miami-Dade Public School teachers. I believe that we have to put our students and teachers first and we must fight to preserve music and arts programs that are currently under attack.
- We must find and eliminate inefficiencies in our school system. Every child deserves a better education than what they are currently receiving in the State of Florida.
- We need to empower parents to become more involved in their children’s education.
